More Blessed

Those of you who are Bible scholars will recognize the title as part of the much-used quote from Acts that it is more blessed to give than to receive. This coming month is the time when many of us will do our best to help those who have less than we do.

Winterizing the Birds in the Aviaries

Even in sunny, snow-free San Diego County, I need to do a walk-around to make sure my birds can make it through the cold days ahead. The temps might plunge to 50 degrees during the day and 30 overnight. Don’t get me started on the rain and possible hail. (Laugh it up, you dwellers in the White Belt. At least I can have snow on my computer if I want it.)

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Very few people on my gift giving list would be good recipients for birds of any type. I do not in any way suggest a parrot or finch or canary as a present for someone unless they have done their research, know what they are getting into, and have a hand in picking out the bird themselves.

Singletons

When a breeder sets up a nest box for a pair of birds, the hope is that a clutch of 3 to 6 eggs will be laid and hatch out lots of fuzzy chicks. Sometimes the results are lots of eggs but no signs of life. Sometimes there are no eggs, which could mean you have two males in there. And now and then only one egg will hatch.
