Winterizing the Birds in the Aviaries
Even in sunny, snow-free San Diego County, I need to do a walk-around to make sure my birds can make it through the cold days ahead. The temps might plunge to 50 degrees during the day and 30 overnight. Don’t get me started on the rain and possible hail. (Laugh it up, you dwellers in the White Belt. Singletons
When a breeder sets up a nest box for a pair of birds, the hope is that a clutch of 3 to 6 eggs will be laid and hatch out lots of fuzzy chicks. Sometimes the results are lots of eggs but no signs of life. Sometimes there are no eggs, which could mean you have two males in there. And now and then only one egg will hatch.
