Lately I’ve been concerned about the Lacey Act Amendment that will be the first step in removing all exotic pets from American homes, and it makes me think of several works of fiction, usually science fiction, that deal with the loss of more common pets, usually due to a virus. These animals are sometimes replaced by even more exotic animals.

We Are Almost Out of Time

Last month, I let you know about the very scary Lacey Act amendment that is heading to congress to be passed. This issue is less important, I’m sure, than the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and the continuing gun violence in this country. But do not ignore it, or you may wake up one morning to find out you cannot take your birds or other pets across state lines. This bit of legislation hobbles people in the name of Animal Rights.

The Dystopian Future of Pets

Dystopian: adjective

  1. Relating to or denoting an imagined state or society where there is great suffering or injustice.

Do you know what’s happening in the United States Senate these days? What do you think of when you hear or read “Animal Rights?” How about “Animal Welfare?” I had never heard of the Lacey Act, passed into law in 1900, the first law to protect wildlife in the US.
