San Diego County is one of the most diverse areas for wildlife and wild flora. As such, there are many laws in place to protect the lands from invasive species. That is a reasonable concern, but do some of the regulations go too far?

What Bird People Do

Recently I was caring for a large collection of canaries for a friend who went on vacation. I noticed things that he did that seemed universal to bird people. We will use a broken dish until we can’t use it any longer. I have so many dishes designed to hang on the cage bars but the hangers have broken off. I place them on the bottom of cages and they work just as well.

Birds Like Beer

My husband Mike has been a big fan of craft beers, and that has influenced a lot of how we have spent our leisure time. We’ve gone to several of Stone Brewing’s anniversary events, even one held at their current property before they got too big for that venue. I am happy to be the designated driver and only sneak a sip of the beers, and I got their Arrogant Bastard Ale-battered onion rings and home brewed sodas.

As an amateur bird breeder, there are times when I want to pick up a mated pair and smoosh their cloacae together. How hard is it to get two openings to line up? From the number of infertile eggs I have disposed of, it’s next to impossible.
